Art/DT |
In Art/DT this week we are looking at Chinese New Year. It begins on Friday, February 12th, 2021, and celebrations culminate with the Lantern Festival on February 26th, 2021. This year it is the Year of the Ox
Ox is the second in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac sign. Years of the Ox include 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021. The Ox is the symbol of diligence, persistence, and honesty.
On Chinese New Year, the themes of happiness, wealth, and long life are celebrated. On this special day, families reunite, special foods are eaten, fireworks are lit, and children receive money in lucky red paper envelopes. It is an important tradition for every family to thoroughly cleanse the house, to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for good incoming luck.
To celebrate, please choose 1 of the following:
Make a dragon paper chain
Do a Year of the Ox colour by number
Cut and stick a dragon
Colour a mindfulness Ox
Decorate a Chinese Lantern.
Bake dragon cookies
You may, of course do more than 1 if you wish.
