In literacy this week we are continuing to learn about different fairy tales. This week our fairy tale is The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Monday

Watch/read with your grown up the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff

 

Retell the story…… What happened?

 

Explain to your grown up what your favourite part of the story was and why.

 

Which part of the story did you like the least?

 

Now can you tell me which picture is the odd one out and why?  Write a sentence remembering your capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

Tuesday

  • Recap – who can remember from last week what the 4 key patterns are in fairy tale stories?
  • Once upon a time, happily ever after, good vs bad, good always wins.

 

Today we are going to identify the bad character in the story…

 

Who has not made good choices.

 

Draw a picture and write a sentence about the character.

 

Remember to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces and explain why you think they are a bad character.

 

Wednesday

Retell the story of The three billy goats gruff – can you remember the main things that happen?

 

Today we are going to identify the good character in the story….

 

Who has made really good choices?

 

Draw a picture of them and write a sentence about the character.

 

Remember to use full stops, capital letters and finger spaces and explain why you think this.

 

Thursday

Today we are going to draw a story map for our story.

 

Please draw in the boxes or use the pictures provided.

 

If you do not have a printer, please do not worry – this can be hand drawn in a format to suit you.

What happens then?

What happens last?

 

Please continue to use time conjunctions when talking about the story with your children.

 

Challenge: Please add any key words to help you retell the story.  

 

  • Please not there are two story maps you are only expected to complete one – one is for drawing and one is for drawing, it is your choice which you use).

Friday

Today we are going to retell the story…

 

Tell your grown up what happened in the story using your story map from yesterday. Try to use the key words we talked about yesterday - first, next and last.

 

Can you now sequence the story by writing a sentence about the four key points, what happened first, what happened next, what happened then, what happened last.  

 

(Grown-ups, if you do not have a printer, please allow your child write the sentences on a piece of paper).
