To finish our unit on fairy tales, this week we are going to write our very own fairy tale story! You can either write your very own fairy tale story from scratch. Or you can use ideas from previous fairy tales we have looked at and change them slightly.

Monday

Starter: Recap (retell your favourite fairy tale story). Which story did you like the best and why?

 

Main: Create a mind map of ideas for your story – you will be using this as a plan for your writing.

 

If you find it tricky you can draw pictures for each section and then write key words underneath.

 

Challenge: Odd one out – Which picture is the odd one and out. If you find it tricky to write a sentence you may tell your grown up verbally.

Tuesday

Starter: How do fairy tales begin? Do all fairy tales start in the same way?

 

Main: Today we are going to write the beginning of our fairy tale story. Please write at least three sentences for this section.

 

Remember your first sentence should start with once upon a time and you should introduce your characters.

 

Please use the writing success criteria to check you have your capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

Wednesday

Starter: What types of characters do we have in fairy tale stories?

 

Main: Today we are going to write the middle of our fairy tale story. Please write at least three sentences for this section.

 

Remember there should be a problem in this section of your story.

 

Please use the writing success criteria to check you have your capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

 

 

 

Wednesday - Day 2 of writing - model - What is going to happen to your characters?

Challenge: Can you draw a picture of all the bad fairy tale characters you can think of and write key words and a sentence about them?

Thursday

Starter: What is a setting?

 

Main: Today we are going to write the ending of our fairy tale story. Please write at least three sentences for this section.

 

Remember your last sentence should end with and they lived happily ever after, the end.

 

Please use the writing success criteria to check you have your capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

 

 

Thursday - Day 3 of writing - model - This is the ending of your story, remember they all lived happily ever after!

Challenge: What are the four main features of a fairy tale story. Can you name them? Make sure your story has all of these features.

Friday

Starter: How do fairy tales end?  

 

Main: Today we are going to check our writing and polish what we have.

 

We need to check that we have used everything on the writing success criteria.

 

We are now going to make your story into a book! Make sure you have an illustration (picture) on each page and you have made you very own front cover!

 

We can’t wait to read your fairy tale stories!
