Recap the diary entry toolkit from last week. Re-read the diary entry to remind the children about what a diary entry should be like. Allow your child to then finishing writing their very own diary entry. Encourage them to use their phonics to sound out any words they are finding tricky. Allow your child to write independently.
Now that your child has written a diary entry, please go through their work with them and check that their sentences make sense. Help them with spelling of red words (words that are not phonetically decodable). Show them how to edit their work to change their mistakes - This is what we call polishing in class.
HOT TASK - Allow the children to write up their diary entry so that they have their best piece of work. Make sure you prompt them to copy their work correctly.
Finish writing up the diary entry. Then recap of the week - What have we learnt this week? Can you write a diary entry? What are the key things we need to remember?
