Monday - Watch the Youtube link at the top of this page. Once Upon a Wild wood. Discuss the story with your grown up. What part of the story did you like the most? Which part of your story was your least favourite? Could you see any links to any other fairy tale stories in this book? If you could which ones?
Tuesday - Re-watch the story from yesterday. Today we are going to story map the first part of the story. Story mapping is where the child draws pictorial representations of the sentences in the story, to help them remember it. We are going to be focusing on the first four pages of the story (this is the troll page on the Youtube link 1:46). If your child is finding story mapping tricky, allow them to draw four pictures to represent each page they have read so far.
Wednesday - Use your story map from yesterday to retell the first part of Once Upon a Wild Wood. If your child is finding this difficult, please re-watch the YouTube video.
Our focus in literacy today is time conjunctions - please ask your child if they know what a time conjunction is. Explain to them that time conjunctions are words that are used to retell a story using the time. Please see examples in the word mat below. Please set up 4 activities around your house. This can be anything from building a tower to organising recycling. Set a timer for five minutes and let your child engage in the first activity, when the timer stops move on to the next one. Once you have finished all tasks retell what activities your child completed using time conjunctions. Please ask your child to write 4 sentences explaining what activities they have completed today. Remind them to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
Thursday - Re-watch Once Upon a Wild Wood on YouTube. Using the child's story map, and their knowledge of the story from watching the video clip. The children are going to write 4 sentences using the time conjunctions on the word mat.

After That....
Please remind the children to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in their writing.
Friday - Today we are having a dress up day in school. Please ask your child to dress up as their favourite character from a fairy tale. Please don't worry if you do not have a costume, your child can draw their favourite character instead and explain it to you.
Please take a photograph of your child's costume or drawing and ask them to explain to you:
Who their chosen character is?
What story/film their character is from?
Where would they find their chosen character? E.G. Do they live in a cottage or would you find them in the woods?
When was the first time you were introduced to this character? Was the story read to you from a young age? Was it your grown ups favourite story when they were little?
Why is this character your favourite? What do you like about them?
Grown ups - please write their responses and send them to us using the home learning email. We cannot wait to see what you get up to!
