The Dragon of Grindly Grun poem

Day 1

Read the rhyming dragon poem above. Try and start to learn the poem off by heart. You can come up with actions to help you retell it. Please have your grownup film you and send it through to us so we can see it.

Draw your own dragon using the wording from the poem to help you. It doesn't have to look like the dragon in the picture above. Use your imagination to come up with your own amazing interpretation. Maybe research other dragon pictures online to get some ideas of what to include on your fiery beast?!! Once you have drawn your dragon, label its main features. See if you can write a short description to go with it too.

Day 2

Reread and retell The Dragon of Grindly Grun poem above.

Today you are going to work on identifying rhyming words. Remember rhyming words do not have to be spelt the same. The last syllable of the word has to rhyme and sound the same. See if you can find the set of rhyming words in the poem. A hint to help you is that the words are usually at the end of a line/sentence. Write each pair down or underline it on the picture. Now complete the attached matching rhyming word sheet.

Challenge: Think of some of your own rhyming words. Write out as many as you can think of.

Day 3

Today you are going to work on rhyming words again. Complete the worksheet by coming up with words that rhyme with each of the words.

Day 4

Today you are going to innovate and change The Dragon of Grindly Grun poem. Look at the worksheet and have a go at writing your own sentences using rhyming words.
