The Paper Bag Princess

This week we are starting to learn a new story called The Paper Bag Princess.

 

Day 1

Watch the video of the new story retelling by Mrs Doswell and start to learn the story using the actions. Use the story map to help you too. Keep practicing it so that you can remember all of it off by heart.

Day 2

Practice retelling the story using the actions from yesterday again. Keep practicing it so that you know the whole story.

Task:

Draw your own story map like the model version to help you learn and retell the story. You can make as easy as you need to help you remember it. Now use your own story map to help you to retell the story - again using the actions.

Day 3

Practice retelling the story using the actions and your story map from yesterday. If and adult can record you retelling the story using the actions and email it through to us, that would be brilliant.

 

Task:

With an adult, use the The Paper Bag Princess Powerpoint to read the story again. Make sure you look at all of the pictures and know which picture links to each part of the story.

 

Now sequence the pictures from the story and write a sentence to go with each part. Use the vocabulary sheet to help you. Remember to use capital letters, full stops and Fred talk any words you’re not sure of.

Day 4

Practice retelling the story using the actions and your story map from yesterday.

 

Task:

Use the templates of the characters from the story to make your own puppets. Now make your own puppet show and use your finished puppets/characters to retell the story. You can have an adult record you retelling the story using your puppets and email it through to us so we can see it.

Day 5

Today you are going to pretend that you are a news reporter and that the dragon has just smashed Princess Elizabeth’s castle. You need to write a news report which recounts/retells what happened. Make it exciting and clearly explain what happened, where it happened, to whom, by whom and how they feel about it.  Has the dragon been caught? What will happen to the dragon now? Make sure you tell your readers everything. Use the story and pictures to help your describe in detail what happened. We have added a news report example for you to read and look at. This may help you to write your own. Yours does not have to be as long or as detailed but please do try your best. Have fun!
