Literacy

This week in literacy we are learning about suffixes. A suffix is used to change the ending of a word. This week we will be focusing on 'ing' and 'ed.'

Monday: Read the 'ing' power point with your child. Think of some words with the ending 'ing.'

Next you are going to hold a sentence with your child: I was skipping and hopping at shopping. Repeat this sentence with your child several times. Ask your child to help you write the sentence.

Tuesday: Re-cap the 'ing' power point if needed. Today we are going to write sentences with words that have an 'ing' ending. Work with your child to think of as many words as they can that end in 'ing.' Once this is completed ask your child to pick three of the words and put them into sentences. Remember to think about your sentence before you write it. Use capital letters full stops and finger spaces.

Wednesday: SPORTS DAY - Organise your own sports to do at home - remember to send us lots of pictures.

Thursday: Today we are learning a new suffix. We are learning the 'ed' suffix. Adding 'ed' to the end of the word changes the tense and puts it in the past. Work through the power point with your child. Think of some words ending in 'ed.'

Next you are going to hold a sentence with your child: I skipped to the loo. Repeat this sentence with your child several times. Ask your child to help you write the sentence.

Friday: Re-cap the 'ed' power point if needed. Today we are going to write sentences with words that have the ending 'ed'. Remind your child that adding 'ed' makes your sentence in the past. Work with your child to think of as many words as they can that end in 'ed.' Once this is completed ask your child to pick three of the words and put them into sentences. Remember to think about your sentence before you write it. Use capital letters full stops and finger spaces.
