Useful information

PE

PE will be on a Friday.

Please ensure that on a Friday your child comes to school dressed in their PE kit (White t-shirt, black tracksuit or shorts, pumps or trainers). As the weather gets colder, please ensure that your child has a warm jumper to wear for outdoor PE.

Forest School

Forest School will be on a Monday for 2 Loddon (Mrs Dempsey)

Forest School will be on a Thursday for 2 Kennet (Mrs Hunter)

Please ensure that on Forest School day your child comes to school dressed in their uniform with a bag containing their forest school clothes. These should be warm and comfortable and things that you don't mind getting muddy - wellies and waterproofs are a good idea for Forest School.

Information about home reading

Reading books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday each week.

We ask that you read each book with your child three times. Each read has a different purpose.

First read: To support their accuracy (getting the words right without having to sound out and blend);

Second read: To support their fluency (speed);

Third read: To support their comprehension (understanding of the story).

Inside the front cover of each book there are red words. These are words that cannot be sounded out as they have a tricky sound. Please practise these before reading the book. In some books these words are written in red so the children know not to sound them out.

There is also a list of story green words. These are words that will come up in the book. Please practise these with the children and check that they understand their meaning. This will support both their accuracy and fluency.

At the back of the books there are sequencing pictures that the children can use to retell the story. There are also some questions which you could ask them to check their comprehension. In addition, you could link the book that they have read to real life events which your child might have experienced as well as other books that they may have read.
