Literacy

Week beginning 22.2.21

This week we are going to be working on a dinosaur story. It is called ‘The Little Green Dinosaur’.

Monday

Today I would like you to listen to the story. I have also included the text so an adult can read it to you too. Please listen to it a few times until you have the story in your head.

I would like you to have a chat with your adult and see if you can answer these questions.

You don’t need to write your answers down just talk through them.

If you can’t answer a question, please listen to the story again!

What happens at the beginning of the story?

What happens in the middle of the story?

What happens at the end of the story?

Can you name any of the characters in the story?

What is your favourite part?

Tuesday

First I would like you to listen to ‘The Little Green Dinosaur’ story again so it is fresh in your mind.

Then I would like you to create a story map to help you to sequence and retell the story. Please use the template to help you to create your own story map.

I have included my story map too so you can have a look at it if you are a little stuck.

Wednesday

Today, I would like you to go through your story map and add actions to your story so that it helps you to remember the order of the story.

Who does the little Green Dinosaur meet first?

Can you remember the different places he walks through?

Who does the Little Green Dinosaur meet at the end of the story?

I would love to see your actions, ask your adult to take a film of you retelling the story and doing your action.

They can send it to The Glade home learning email address.

Thursday

Today we are going to be sequencing our story.

Using the template you will need to put down key words and draw pictures in the missing boxes to make sure you have sequenced the story correctly. I have already started it and would like you to finish it.

Friday

Today I would like to perform ‘The Little Green Dinosaur’ using puppets.

You will need some paper, pencils and cellotape to make the pictures into puppets. I would like you to draw the main characters in the story and create your own puppets.

You could always have your story map in front of you to help you remember the story.

Make this into a proper event. Invite your family to your performance and tell the story. I can’t wait to see photos or video of you retelling the story!
