Maths 

This week we are going to learn about symmetry. There are no videos this week but please email us if you would like more explanations.The pack below has information for each day. The worksheets can be found on the correct days. 

English 

Lesson 1 

Goal: To use personification

Warm up-

Put these three words into a correctly punctuated sentence.

Fox                 House                        Snow

Example- Suddenly, the beady eyed fox walked mysteriously through the snow towards the brightness of the house. 

Task-

Look through the PowerPoint about figurative language. You may recognise some of the features on the PowerPoint. Today, we are looking at personification. You should use the PowerPoint and BBC Bitesize to support you with your learning of personification. Then, complete the activity sheet. You can choose which sheet you would like to do. 1 star- Easiest 3 stars- Hardest. 

 

Lesson 1- Powerpoint and Activity

Lesson 2 

Goal: To draw a setting from a description.

Warm up-

Get your grown up to time you for 1 minute.

Write down as many verbs and adjectives as you can in 1 minute. How many did you get?

Task-

Listen to the setting description below. As I am reading the description to you, you should try and draw what I am describing. You must draw exactly what I tell you to. Once you have finished, label what you have drawn. Compare the description to your drawing. Did you include everything? You can colour the setting in.

Lesson 3

Goal: To write a setting description  

Warm up-Word Chains

How long can you make your word chain? Start with the word ‘plane.’ Start the next word with the last letter of the word that came before.

Example- Planeegg…..girl…..lollipop

Can you start your word with the last 2 letters from the word that came before?

Example- Planenever….errororange

Task-

Have a look at BBC Bitesize and complete the activity (the link is below). 

 

When we are writing setting descriptions we need to include; what we can see, what we can hear, what we can smell, what we can taste and what we can touch. Look at the different images and choose one to write a short setting description for. If you do not like any of the settings you can choose one of your own. As well as including senses, try to include some of the figurative language that we have been looking at (similes, metaphors, adjectives, personification). 

 

This is a short example of an island being taken over by a storm- As the storm came closer to the paradise island the tall, towering trees began to sing. The wet, sticky sand was carried away by the cries of the dangerous storm. They sky grew darker and the raging water started to climb over the island. In the distance, a small boat was being carelessly tossed around by the rough, rapid sea. 

Lesson 4

SPAG- Dictation.

You can either listen to me read the sentences on the video below or ask a grown up to read the sentences to you. You must write the sentences down and try to spell all of the words correctly. Each sentence has a year 3/ 4 spelling word in it. Remember to use the correct punctuation as well. After, you can mark your work.

 

  1. I am going to be eight soon. 
  2. I thought it was going to rain again.
  3. I would like to visit a desert island.
  4. Are you in the correct position?
  5. I like to eat potatoes on a Sunday.
  6. I have learnt to ride my bicycle.
  7. That was the best experience.
  8. Did you remember my birthday?
  9. I had to decide what to have for dinner.
  10. A century is one hundred years.

Complete the word grids for your 3 chosen words.

Lesson 3 – To write questions

Re-cap what you have read so far.

Write 10 questions based on what you have read. The answer must be found in the text somewhere. You do not need to write the answer.

Lesson 4 – To find quotes

Listen to Chapter 6.

Write down as many quotes as you can that give you a clue that it is summer.

Other activities

This week, we have included some other activities which you might like to try at home :) 

School closes for pupils in Reception and Year 1 on Friday at lunchtime, except for keyworker and vulnerable pupils. School closes for all pupils on Tuesday 21st July at lunchtime for the summer break. We reopen for all pupils on Thursday 3rd September. We wish you all a safe and happy summer break.
