Week 12

Maths

English

This week we are revisiting speech so that we can use it correctly next week.

Lesson 1
Goal: To identify mistakes in speech
Warm up- Word Chains
How long can you make your word chain? Start with the word ‘toy.’ Start the next word with the last letter of the word that came before.

Example- Toyyoghurt…tea…ant

Can you start your word with the last 2 letters from the word that came before?

Task-
Look at the speech checklist. Remind yourself about how to write speech and what order speech is written in.
Then, look at the ‘Be the teacher’ sheet. Complete the activity. You can use the speech checklist to help you.

Lesson 2
Goal: To write direct speech
Warm up- Create your own
Create your own warm up game for english. It needs to be linked to the subject in some way. Please share your ideas with us so that we can put them on our shout out page for other children to try!

Task-
Look at the comic strip from Charlotte’s Web. You must change the comic strip into direct speech. You can use different colours to show the different features of the speech checklist. You should then continue the conversation from the comic strip. Use the speech checklist to help you!

Try to make as many words as you can with the letters in the grid. You could create a grid for someone at home to try.

Task-
Look at the speech checklist to remind yourself about what you need to do when you are writing speech. Choose two characters from Charlotte’s web (Charlotte, Wilbur,Templeton, Fern, Fern’s father…). We would like you to write some speech between these characters. You can add extra details about their movements or what they are doing.

For example,

“What scraps have you left me today Wilbur?” asked Templeton eagerly. He wandered closer to Wilbur’s trough, sniffing the ground.
“I’m afraid there’s not much left Templeton. It was my favourite today!” smiled Wilbur happily as he licked his lips.

Lesson 4- SPAG
Use the year 3 and 4 spelling list to make a word search. You must make sure that you spell the words correctly. You should include 10 words from the list. Then you should make clues for each word. The person completing the word search must work
out the word that they are looking for using the clue. You can use the template or draw your grid in your home learning book.

For example- CLUE- This is a healthy snack. WORD- Fruit
