After you have completed the work for the day you might like to give these activities a go! They are not compulsory :)
This week we are going to learn about Roman Numerals. There are no videos this week but please email us if you would like more explanations. Please look at the instructions booklet to see what you need to do each day.
This week we are going to be planning and writing our own story. We are going to use all of the features that we have been learning about.
Goal: To plan a story
Write as many questions as you can where the answer is dog.
You are going to plan and draft an adventure story about baby spiders. You can link your story to Charlotte’s Web if you would like to. Discuss with someone at home about the different adventures that baby spiders could go on. Today, you will plan your story. You can choose which planning format you would like to use. They are very similar. I have done an example planning sheet for my story but make sure you use your own ideas. Remember a plan just needs to include notes about what is going to happen in each part of the story. This will help you to write your story tomorrow.
Goal: To draft a story
Play the warm up writing game that you created last week
Today you will draft your introduction and build up. Make sure you use your ideas from your plan. I would have my plan in front of me to make sure that I am following it. Remember to include all of the features that we have been looking at over the last couple of weeks and to write in paragraphs. I have put these below. Once you have drafted your introduction and build up, make sure you read it aloud to ensure that you are happy with it and that it makes sense.
Goal: To draft a story
Read your story aloud so far. You could read it to yourself or someone at home. Are you happy with it? Make any changes if you would like to.
Talk through with someone at home what you are going to be writing today. What is going to happen in the next part of your story? You might need to explain what has already happened!
Continue writing your story until you are finished. Remember to use paragraphs and the features that we have been looking at.
Goal: To edit a story
Today you are going to edit your story. When editing your story, read it aloud to make sure it makes sense. If you are missing a word, just add the word in with a different colour or an arrow. Don’t worry if your work has lots of crossing out where you have improved it as we will be publishing them in our neatest handwriting next week. Use the editing toolkit to help you edit your work. You could tick each bullet point off as you check for them in your writing.
Lesson 5- English activity booklet.
Start to work your way through the English activity booklet. You are not expected to complete the whole booklet today as you will continue with it next week.
I have added a link to support you with subordinating conjunctions
This week, we will be continuing to read Charlotte's Web. We are nearly finished!
Lesson 1- Chapter 12 and 13
Listen to chapter 12 and 13 online or read to yourself if you have the book.
Lesson 2- Charlotte
If you were Charlotte, what would you weave into your web and why? Think of 5 examples and explain your choices
Lesson 3- Chapter 14 and 15
Listen to chapter 14 and 15 online or read to yourself if you have the book.
Lesson 4- Summary of chapter 14 and 15
A summary covers the main points of a text. It highlights the important events.
Write a paragraph summarising what has happened in chapter 14 and 15. You will need to think carefully about the most important events. Remember to use capital letters and full stops. Read your paragraph aloud to make sure it makes sense.
Lesson 5- Chapter 16 and 17
Listen to chapter 16 and 17 online or read to yourself if you have the book.
Write 5 questions for someone else to answer about these chapters. You should write 3 different answers for each question.
