Meet the Governors

Peter Kayes Co-opted Governor, Chair of Governors

 

 Peter Kayes has lived in Reading since 1969. He had a career in the computer industry after which he moved into Higher Education, teaching computing at Reading College. He was appointed to a management position at Thames Valley University (now The University of West London), subsequently becoming  Director of the Slough campus. He is now retired and undertakes working in the local community. Peter also spent three years as an elected Councillor on Reading Borough Council from 2004 to 2007. He joined the Governing Board at The Ridgeway Primary School in 2009.

 

Norah Edgar  Governor (Head Teacher)

 

Ghilaine Chan Co-opted Governor, Vice-Chair of Governors and Chair of Curriculum and Standards Committee

 

I believe in being the change you want to see and I am passionate about giving back where I can. Encouraging children to nurture their curiosity and knowing that education opens doors for them, I can use my skills to support the school and Mrs Edgar to run the school that is shaped by the needs of the local area and community. In my day job, I am a Chief Operating officer for a growing SME tech business.

Shazia Sheikh Parent Governor

 

Shazia is a parent of seven children ranging from 2 to 24 years. She has home educated her children over the last 20 years whilst completing a BA Hons degree in Childhood and Youth Studies with the Open University. She has worked as a Triple P Practitioner and Facilitator helping parents with their children's behavioural issues and found this experience to be very rewarding indeed. Shazia has also ran an array of community clubs such as: Parent and Toddlers, Sports Clubs and Home Education clubs over the last 20 years.  Shazia hopes to bring her wealth of experience gained from working with a variety of families to her role of Parent Governor in a quest to help improve the lives of everyone connected with The Ridgeway Primary School. 

Ruth McEwan Local Authority Governor

 

Roger Koscheck  Co-opted Governor

Roger is Brazilian and has lived in the UK since October 2020. He has five children aged between 9 and 33 years; two of his children attend The Ridgeway Primary School. 

 

Roger has extensive experience in business administration and finance and has worked as a volunteer in a variety of non-profit organisations in Brazil in the areas of: education, homeless people, drug addiction as well as various cultural and sports projects. He was the first president of ABRAFH, Brazilian Association of Homo-Trans- Affective Families helping LGBTQI+ families and people. 

Roger believes that its very important that parents/carers participate and work together with school staff, governors and the community to help improve the quality of education provided and everything that influences the physical and intellectual development of our children.

Dan Mead Co-opted Governor

 

Dan is a lifelong Reading resident, from being born in the Royal Berkshire Hospital to going to school across the road at Reading School, and now living in the Borough. He is currently a civil servant at His Majesty's Treasury where he is an economist monitoring the financial health of the corporate sector. He also previously held positions in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.  Dan believes that education, particularly the early years of school, is incredibly important and hopes to help The Ridgeway Primary School give every person the best possible start to life. 

Jessica del Rio Parent Governor 

Jessica has 20+ years experience working in a higher education environment, and is currently working across the project management and change management teams at The University of Reading.  She has a particular interest in equality of opportunity in education for all children, regardless of circumstance and also in how mental and physical wellness contribute to effective learning.  Jessica has three children at Ridgeway Primary
