School uniform is an important aspect of school life. Children are instantly identifiable as part of our school community - often, following a trip made by our children, I receive emails or letters from members of the public commenting on how well the children represent their school, how lovely their manners were, or how beautifully they behaved!
Uniform also removes social and educational barriers. Every child wears the same - no need for expensive brands or fashion logos, or the latest trainers. Plain, well-fitting trainers from a supermarket are much more sensible than the latest Nike brand, and children spend quite a lot of time running around the playground so sensible footwear and clothing is essential.
Our uniform policy was reviewed recently by our governing body and reflects our commitment to ensuring uniform is affordable and accessible. Additionally, the school holds a large stock of 'pre-loved' uniform items, including PE kit, coats and shoes, and these are available to all families if preferred. Please speak to our family worker, Leigh Rumble, if you would like any items from our pre-loved stock.
For Forest School, old clothing in dark colours is sensible, and long trousers/sleeves are essential. Children will need a pair of old trainers or wellington boots, and an old waterproof coat, gloves and a hat in colder months. Waterproof trousers are a good idea, but not essential.
Please remember that nail polish and make-up must not be worn in school and long hair must be tied back at all times. Small studs in pierced ears are safe for school - hooped earrings risk catching on clothing or hair and will be covered for games and PE.
Most uniform items can be bought from a supermarket, including wellies, trainers and school shoes. A Ridgeway school jumper can be bought from Stevensons in town or online from our school uniform suppliers - www.brigade.uk.com
